Senator Michael Johnston speaks on education at "Taste of PLC"

This years 'Taste of PLC' drew a large number of prospective students and their parents to the Glen Miller Ballroom Tuesday night and they were treated to welcome remarks from CU Regent Steve Bosley and a stiring evening presentaiton from State Senator Michael Johnston.

The "Taste.." event is an annual opportunity for high school seniors to experience a day-in-the-life of a PLC student, by attending a lecture, recitations as well as discussions on the experiential components of the program. Parents are invited to learn more about the program by participating in a panel discussion on a wide range of topics. Representatives from financial aid as well as other top scholar programs on campus take part in the event, too.

Regent Bosley encouraged the audience to embrace the university that CU has become over the past decade, a leader in nearly every academic field across campus.  At the same time he implored current students to once and for all stand up against the negative stereotypes that often follow CU around the country, including the infamous 420 Day.

At the evening lecture, State Senator Johnston gave an emotional speech about the power of public education to change lives and the need for every resident in Colorado to have equal access to a quality education.  Johnston, the father of three, said it's time for Colorado to look critically at who makes it and who doesn't in Colorado, coming out of our public schools.  He said we must, as a state, take the steps necessary to ensure lifelong success for our students, starting in elementary school and continuing through college.
