Wilkinson (PLC ‘05) Wins Grants From National Institutes on Drug Abuse

Andra Wilkinson (PLC 2005), a Ph.D. student at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, recently received a prestigious 3-year training grant from the National Institutes on Drug Abuse. Wilkinson is a predoctoral trainee with the Carolina Population Center, where she studies adolescent risk taking and how it does or does not impact health in young adulthood and if the association differs between men and women. Wilkinson graduated from CU Boulder in May 2009 with a major in Integrative Physiology and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Following graduation, Wilkinson worked in public health for Kaiser Permanente before moving to North Carolina for graduate school. As part of her graduate work, Wilkinson was able to spend the summer of 2013 in rural South Africa managing a youth poverty alleviation pilot project and doing some of the work from her PLC Capstone Project, more than four years later! Also, this past summer, Wilkinson married a fellow PLC alumna, Darren Legge (PLC 2003).
