Huspeni joins DBJ staff, will cover real estate news

Dennis Huspeni, a veteran Colorado journalist who wrote for The Denver Post and Colorado Springs Gazette newspapers, will join the Denver Business Journal on March 29.

Huspeni, most recently a freelance reporter writing for the Denver Business Journal and Denver Magazine, among others, will cover real estate, retail development and associated beats.

“Dennis is an all-around great reporter, who loves meeting people and learning about their businesses,” said Neil Westergaard, editor of the DBJ. “He has a broad experience covering business and legal affairs and will be a valuable addition to the DBJ’s award-winning reporting staff.”

At the Gazette, Huspeni had the legal affairs beat, covering state and local courts, and law enforcement agencies in addition to breaking news. His reporting led to criminal charges being brought against public officials accused of misusing public funds.

As a freelancer writing for the DBJ, Huspeni has written numerous profiles of local business men and women, and chronicled the fall of hedge fund manager Sean Mueller in an exhaustive article last month in Denver Magazine.

“The combination of understanding legal affairs, and a genuine enthusiasm for meeting new people and hearing about their business lives, makes Dennis perfect for the DBJ,” Westergaard said. “We’re looking forward to him joining the team.”

Huspeni, 42, is married with two teenage children. He and his wife, Clare, live in Parker.
