A key priority of the Presidents Leadership Class is to provide opportunities for PLC scholars to interact with experienced leaders from the local, state, national, and international communities. Since it's founding in 1972, PLC has provided many opportunities for scholars to meet, formally and informally, with leaders from the private, public, and non-profit sectors. To enhance this long tradition, PLC launched a Leader in Residence program in August 2007. This program will bring, from time to time, high-level leaders to PLC for extended visits with students and faculty in an informal setting. This is an exceptional opportunity for students to learn firsthand about leadership responsibilities and to glean leadership insights directly from successful leaders.
The activities of each PLC Leader in Residence will be tailored to the individual priorities and interests of the chosen Leader. After a Leader completes a designated term as Leader in Residence, the relationship between the Leader and PLC continues on an informal basis as a trusted advisor and friend of the organization.
The Leader in Residence will offer students, faculty, staff, and board members multiple opportunities for learning and networking. The Leader's responsibilities may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Advising students, individually and in groups
- Teaching PLC courses, as needed
- Advising the PLC faculty and board on program matters
- Identifying and/or introducing potential speakers and special lectures for the program
- Offering presentations and assistance to other colleges and programs at the university as well as to organizations outside the university
- Keynoting PLC events as needed
- Providing other services as mutually agreed upon
Through its Leader in Residence program, PLC adds a powerful dimension to the experiences it provides its students beyond the classroom. For more information, contact the PLC office at 303-492-8342.
The inaugural Leader in Residence was Dr. Lloyd Lewan, former Chairman of Lewan and Associates and former Dean of Semester at Sea. Selection is now underway for the next Leader in Residence.
