Student Workers Alliance Program (SWAP) Training

February

Student Workers Alliance Program (SWAP) Training A special training to help provide English interaction for non-English speaking faculty on campus

SWAP Training:

Sunday, February 12th in HLMS 211 from 12-4p

SWAP's goals are to work toward integration of under served campus sectors in the CU as well as the larger Boulder community. SWAP primarily by providing English classes to Dining Services and Facilities Management staff members (it's what our volunteer program is all about!) In addition, they teach more interactive skills like how to speak with a doctor, communication with their children's teachers, as well as other more day to day tasks like how to take advantage of public transit and go to the bank, just to name a few. SWAP use materials provided by Intercambio Uniting Communities here in Boulder, and a foreign language background is not necessary to participate.

Here are the details in regards to this semester's one-time 4 hour training dates. If you have already been trained through Intercambio Uniting Communities, just send a schedule just need your schedule!

Tuesday, February 7th AND Thursday, February 9th in HLMS 255
from 6-8 OR
Sunday, February 12th in HLMS 211 from 12-4p

Food will be provided at all training sessions, but it’s
pizza/cookies/lemonade...so if you’re not down with gluten
then I would advise eating beforehand or bringing something
with you.

After being matched with a student, your classroom will be one of the many buildings on campus. For instance, if you have a class in the C4C you will simply go there at your specified class time, meet your student for an hour, then leave so you can go to your other classes while they go back to work.
The training is important only because SWAP help provide the resources to teach your student effectively. They discuss parts of speech, ways to interactively teach a variety of subjects and they provide an overall picture of how to be respectful and maintain a student/teacher relationship throughout the semester to create a true exchange of ideas and culture.

Feel free to send an email to [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to RSVP for a training.
