Ron Billingsley - CU-Boulder Professor, Former PLC Academic Director [First Year Lecturer]FebruaryRon Billingsley was raised in Los Angeles, California and received his undergraduate degree in English from the University of Redlands. After serving five years in the Navy as an officer and aviator he went to the University of Oregon where he earned a Masters and PhD in American Literature. During his thirty-one years at the University of Colorado (CU) his interest in teaching and curriculum development has been very strong. While at C.U. he has taught some thirty-four different courses offered in six different programs and departments. Twenty three of those courses were of his own design. Although Professor Billingsley has American literature from the beginning of his career) he has also participated in a number of interdisciplinary and experiential programs such as the Honors Program, Experimental Studies, Farrand Hall, and The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. His three voyages around the world with the Semester at Sea program served to raise his concern for global issues and environmental problems and prompted him to design a number of interdisciplinary global studies courses. Additionally he has a deep and sustained interest in teacher training and most aspects of teaching and learning; he is especially concerned with interdisciplinary and multicultural approaches to education. Because of the range of his academic experience and his deep concern for national and international issues Dr. Billingsley was asked in 1990 to serve as the Academic Director of The Presidents Leadership Class (PLC). He held that position for fourteen years and contributed substantially to the national recognition of the PLC program. His continuing commitment to leadership development at all levels of our national life has led him to continue to write and consult in the area of leadership and management development.
