The Myth of Race

We all know what race is. Racial categories are embedded in our language, and racial differences seem obvious. And yet as a scientific tool for understanding human variation race is a myth.

This Wednesdsay night, Dr. Dennis Van Gerven (CU Anthropology) will argue that “Human Races are arbitrary categories invented to fit a misunderstanding about how humans evolve.”

I will argue further that when the myth bleeds into our social lives someone always gets hurt

Dr. Van Gerven has been awarded CU's highest teaching honors and is simply an inspiring lecturer.  This event takes place at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 1st, in the Planetarium
