The Global Lessons of a Drug WarJeffrey D. Sweetin, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Administration: Jeffrey D. Sweetin is no one to mess with—especially if you happen to be involved in the international illicit drug trade. Lucky for many PLCers in the audience, this guest lecture was less of a formal presentation and more of a conversation. Sweetin shared many important details about the drug trafficking problem that is very much alive in many parts of the United States. Sweetin was not afraid to let us know the process of a “drug sting,” and many of his real-life experiences seemed as if they belonged in a James Bond movie rather than a government operation. The main premise of Sweetin’s conversation with PLC Global Issues students was the success of many anti drug tactics staged by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The anti-meth campaign has had large success around the entire country, except for exportation of the drug which is still at an all-time high. Sweetin’s next concern for America is not the question of illicit drugs being exported into the country illegally, but the prescription drug epidemic sweeping homes around the U.S.
