Multicultural Leadership Open For May Enrollment

This dynamic and interactive course focuses on leadership in a multicultural world. We will study leadership ideas from the disciplines of anthropology, ethnic studies, history, sociology, and education and will engage with compelling questions about leadership.

What does it look like to be a leader in our world today; what is multiculturalism and how does this shape leadership? How do personal biases and perspectives, as well as broader global dynamics of the 21st century, influence leaders? How do social, environmental, and economic factors shape the contexts in which leaders must lead? Students will also go beyond the classroom to learn from leaders in sectors such as environmental management, international business, cross-cultural education, and city planning.

During the course of the class each student will engage in a focused research project to examine an aspect of multicultural leadership. They will be inspired to think critically, and to become better leaders themselves, by learning how multicultural leadership is created, challenged, refashioned, and practiced.

Multicultural Leadership (LDSP 3100) is designed especially to take advantage of Maymester’s potential for active and meaningful student engagement.  The class explores diverse leadership theories and guides students in developing practical social, emotional and interpersonal competencies necessary for effectiveness in multicultural settings.
