Leadership Educators Focus On Sustainability at Denver Conference

Sustainability, from local to global, has enormous implications for leaders in the 21st Century.  That was the message delievered by PLC alumni Dr. Joe Pesce and Dr. Angela Thieman Dino at a roundtable discussion on Sustainability and Leadership, at the 2011 conference of the Association of Leadership Educators this week.

Participants from across the United States and Canada came to Denver for the conference, and exchanged information about philosophies, best practices, and challenges in teaching—and practicing—sustainability as leaders.  

The message? Organizations must strive to be sustainable internally, but also must be positioned to adapt to a world ever more complicated.  One of the most important challenges facing a leader is how do deal with sustainability.  Not only are leaders challenged to innovate strategies that endure far into the future, but also these strategies must meet complex needs within constraints of precious--but limited, or unpredictable--resources.

The session was led by PLC Academic Director Angela Thieman Dino and PLC Alum Dr. Joe Pesce’s.  Joe is a thought leader and determined advocate for critical thinking and leadership in academia, industry and goverment. He has over 25 years of extensive experience in science, technology, education, and analytic methodology, having served in academia, private industry, and the US government.

An astrophysicist who earned his Ph.D. at Cambridge University, Joe is the founder and CEO of Omnis, Inc.,a Northern Virginia-based consulting and training firm where highly talented researchers, engineers and other experts develop innovative solutions to the problems that most concern the intelligence, defense and national security community.
