First Friday Night Football Game for CUNovember 3, 2011
By Brittany Anas CU will host USC at 7 p.m. Friday at Folsom Field, making history with the first Friday night football game at the Boulder campus. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN 3D. University officials negotiated with ESPN to avoid a Thursday night game, which would have disrupted late-afternoon and evening classes. No classes are scheduled for Friday night, said CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard. "It's a win-win all around," he said. With thousands of football fans in Boulder for the game on a work and school day, traffic is expected to be especially heavy, according to CU officials. They advise walking, riding a bike or taking public transportation on game day. "We are proud that we're becoming known for our hospitality toward other Pac-12 teams," Karen Raforth, interim dean of students at CU, said in a statement. "Because this is a night game, we urge our students and fans to be safe." CU police and security will have a "robust presence" in and around the stadium, and visibly intoxicated or disruptive fans will be refused entry or ejected, according to campus officials. And whether the Buffs win or lose, the game will give CU a chance to showcase its campus -- which can be a great recruiting tool.
