PLC Community:PLC is not just a program; it is a community. Part of the strength of this program comes from its 37-year-old network of alumni, parents, board members, and community leaders. This community offers opportunities and benefits for our scholars beyond those available to other university students.
Student Community: PLC is comprised of approximately 200 scholars (50 per class). Each class is crafted to bring in unique perspectives from students of the highest caliber in all walks of life. This dynamic creates a community of individuals who not only support each other but also push each other to grow both intellectually and socially. Scholars will also find that there are many ways to get involved with the PLC community outside of the classroom. PLC holds annual social events from pumpkin carving to ski weekends and while these events are not mandatory, they provide further opportunity for the scholars to interact on a social level. PLC’s student community provides an intimate “family” experience within the vast resources of a large university.
Alumni Community: When you enter PLC you join more than just a group of 200 scholars; you become part of an extensive network of people dedicated to your success at all levels of academic and community life. More specifically, you will be joining a very accomplished group of approximately 2,000 alumni who are currently working across an array of fields locally, nationally, and internationally. This network can act as an incredible resource for internships, mentorships, and job placements for scholars. Upon graduation from PLC, scholars assume their place in the PLC alumni network, which is supported through an alumni program, an online web community, and annual alumni events. Our alumni play an integral role in PLC by supporting the program with their time, energy, and financial resources. We expect that our scholars come into the program not simply seeing themselves as a PLCer for their undergraduate career at CU but rather as a PLCer for life.
Extended Community: PLC depends on the support of outside community members for the success of many of our curriculum components. Much like our alumni, parents, and board members, other community leaders serve as internship mentors, participate as guest lecturers, donate financially, and serve in many other capacities within the program. This extensive network allows our scholars to get exposure to areas outside of the academic realm and experience leadership first hand. |
