PLC encourages its alumni to participate in the current program and be involved with current scholars. Following are opportunities for alumni. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please email [email protected].

Tuesday Night Lectures: Alumni are invited to attend any Tuesday evening lecture on campus.

Alumni Round Tables: This is your chance to meet with some of the current students to help them with career planning. We will be hosting round table groups throughout the year in the areas of medicine, performance and the arts, education, law, and business. If you are currently working or have worked in any of these fields and would like to share your knowledge and expertise, please email the address above.

Walkabout Sponsor: The purpose of the PLC Walkabout is to provide students with a practical hands-on internship, putting into practice the leadership skills they have developed over the previous three semesters in PLC. The Walkabout is an intensive, semester-long internship-type experience in which students are placed into positions of responsible community membership and encouraged to be creative, productive, and helpful.

In this self-initiated project it is possible for scholars to participate in a wide range of activities with local businesses, educational, governmental, and service organizations. Each of these scholars must work closely with a sponsor in order to grow as a leader and learn more about a particular field or discipline. As a sponsor, you can help the students to find substantial projects and opportunities that will challenge them intellectually and engage their interests, while mentoring them during their time at the walkabout site. Most students participate in the Walkabout during their Spring or Summer semesters. If you are interested in being a Walkabout Sponsor or think your organization would like to sponsor a Walkabout student, please contact the PLC office.

Godparent Groups: Godparent Groups provide an opportunity for current scholars to get to know alumni, board members, parents, and community leaders and usually consists of a sponsor from one of those constituencies hosting 7-10 current scholars in an informal gathering. In the past, sponsors have held a meal at their home, taken students out to dinner, attended a ball game, or organized a night at the bowling lanes, with the aim of creating a relaxing environment in which scholars can get to know those in attendance. Andrew Klein, PLC Class of 1992, has participated in the program for the past several years by hosting an informal event at his house. His gatherings not only give the students a chance to hear about his work as a businessman and community leader, but also give him a chance to interact with the current PLC students and stay connected with the program. Godparent Groups can be held anytime during the academic year.

Guest Speakers: If you feel that you, or someone you know, would like to be a guest speaker for our Tuesday night lectures, please let us know. We are always looking for dynamic speakers to enrich our curriculum. Speakers talk about wide ranging issues such as vision, empowerment, resilience, racism, systems thinking. We want to find speakers in all fields that bring with them different life experiences to share with our students. If you are interested, call the PLC office and ask for our Assistant Director of Speaker Series.

Weekend Speakers: Both fall and spring semester freshman scholars participate in either a Discover Colorado or Urban Experience weekend seminar. These weekend trips provide scholars with an experience that allows them to become more familiar with the Colorado and PLC communities, and promotes awareness of issues facing Colorado. After meeting with local officials, businesses, and non-profits, students are challenged to define solutions that allow communities to work through different issues. If you or your organization would like to participate in this aspect of the program, please call the office and ask for our Assistant Director of Experiential Programs.

Alumni Relations and Class Representatives

Communications and Locating Lost Alumni: We need your help in strengthening the alumni community and locating "lost" classmates. If you are willing to serve as a class representative who can help us encourage your classmates to reconnect, participate in alumni activities, or share information about their accomplishments, we'd like your help! Please contact the PLC office to learn more about this important role.

Planning Alumni Activities: Would you like to help PLC plan events for its alumni? Let the PLC office know if you've got an interest in helping plan future events, or just to share a good idea.
