About PLC

Selection Criteria

The Presidents Leadership Class does not seek out a specific “mold” of a student.  Each student in the program differs in their approach to leadership issues, leading styles, academic interests, extracurricular passions, and most importantly, character.  Students thrive on their differences, and through them, exhibit their very own versions of intellectual curiosity, leadership potential, commitment outside of self, and a contribution to community.  We must see how you shine in these four criteria in your PLC Application.  Successful candidates demonstrate strength in the following four areas:

Intellectual Curiosity: Do you challenge yourself intellectually?  Do you take advanced classes and/or pursue a wide variety of academic disciplines?  PLC is looking for students who excel and are committed to excellence in school, but also explore an array of programs and resources that widen their academic knowledge base.  You do not have to have a perfect GPA to be in PLC, but you do have to demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for learning and are eager to grow intellectually.

Leadership Potential:  Do you understand good leadership?  Have you started to develop your own leadership style?  PLC seeks students who not only understand leadership approaches, but those who have started to put their own styles into practice.  We look for leadership roles and pursuits you have committed to in high school and a deep level of involvement and dedication to personal interests and goals.

Commitment Outside of Self: Are you committed to a purpose outside of your own self interest?  PLC selects students who share the value of serving others, whether it is the homeless in your community, disadvantaged students at your school, a non-profit organization in your town, or your family.  We are looking for students who give time and resources to better their community and demonstrate an undeniable compassion and/or genuine interest in serving others.

Contribution to Community: Do you make a unique contribution to your community?  Do you have the potential to make a distinctive addition to the PLC community?  PLC is a very tight-knit community and prides itself on allowing every PLC student to grow and stand-out in their own unique way.  PLC looks for students who will make a positive contribution to the PLC community, and beyond.
